Words of Widsom for Upcoming Web 2.0 Conference

Web 2.0:
For every 1.6 billion dollar buy out, there are 1.6 million start-ups in garages digging their own websites.

Startups 1:
If your target market is the readers of digg, reddit, and delicious then you’re trying to sell shelves to a carpenter. If he really wanted them, he would have built them himself, years [...]

Urgent Notice to all Entrepreneurs : It’s Obvious

Every entrepreneur should read Evan Williams post on the birth of Obvious Corp. I had the fun of witnessing Evan introduce Odeo at the TED conference where he did a great job leading to a lot of media coverage. Evan wrote the widely read post Ten Rules for Web Startups back [...]

Crowdsourcing or Community Production - An Interview with Hugh McGuire from Librivox

I’ve been thinking a lot about the differences between organic gift communities that undertake social production and crowdsourcing. I made my previous post on the topic of crowdsourcing a day before I had the pleasure of having lunch with Montreal author, entrepreneur and the first person to utter the word Librivox, Hugh [...]

My apologies to Mr. Robert Herjavec

In my previous post regarding the CBC show Dragon’s Den I used the phrase Polygamous Marriage while referring to the shotgun financings. While reviewing my logs I’ve noticed more then a few visitors to my site were searching for information on Robert’s marital status and somehow found my post.

Let my packets go …

Many years ago, I dreamt of creating a secure privacy overlay network with implications for free speech and Internet civil rights. While the Freedom Network may be gone - there are great people working on the same issues.

Puff the Magic Dragon, Lives on CBC

I’ve been watching the new CBC show Dragon’s Den, and I’m concerned by the examples being set for any entrepreneurs watching or participating.
Anyone who thinks this show has anything to do with real business angel investing is probably smoking the same stuff as Peter, Paul and Mary.
Now, for those who haven’t [...]

Are you a maverick at work? Free Yi-Tan Community Call with Polly LaBarre

I recently picked up Mavericks at Work after reading this interview that Guy Kawasaki did with co-author, Polly LaBarre. I’ve only read the first third of the book, and I can say so far I’m really enjoying it. The authors discussion of how corporate language can shape unique organizational behaviour really struck home.
I normally recommend [...]

I went to Democamp and all I got was a case of unconference fever

I first heard of Barcamp last May right when I was leaving Radialpoint to start my new project. Barcamp and Democamp are some of the fastest growing examples of the unconference tend.
I contacted the primary instigator of the Toronto’s Barcamp/Democamp scene David Crow - who was kind of enough to meet with my partner [...]
